The Skinner Skyhawk Branch of the US Bank is open for business on Tuesdays. Each Tuesday morning, the bank will be open from 9:00 - 10:00 AM. Each class will have an assigned time where students can make deposits into their own savings account.
What does this mean to you and your child? You no longer need to save those coins in a can or piggy bank. Your child can make deposits of as little as $1 and watch their savings grow. The goal of this program is to provide our students opportunities not only learn about savings and how banks operate, but to also become savers themselves. We are building a community of economists here at Skinner Magnet Center and want your child to become a savvy saver.
Your student will be able to open a savings account with parent permission. Since this is a unique situation, all money deposited will be under one large Skinner Magnet Center account. However, information about each child's deposits will be maintained separately.
This account is only active at the Skinner Magnet Center Branch. Withdrawls will not be allowed at school. Each deposit must be at least one dollar. When a child leaves our school or graduates from sixth grade, a check will be issued for their balance in the account.
The bank will be open each Tuesday to accept student deposits. Each student will have their own ledger to record their deoposits. These will be maintained at school and will not go home with the student. In lieu of interest, children receive incentives provided by US Bank, and US Bank will match the first deposit of up to $5.00.
The cost to run the program is entirely paid for by US Bank and the only investment requested from Skinner would be to provide student tellers. This program is run in conjunction with the UNL Center for Economic Education.
